With a degree in Retail, Kelley has always had a passion for fashion. She began her career working at renowned brands such as Burberry, Nine West, and Nordstrom between 1999 and 2007. Despite enjoying the world of retail, Kelley soon realized that the demanding “retail hours” did not suit her lifestyle. This realization led her to transition into corporate America, where she pursued a career in technology sales.
Rediscovering Fashion and the Start of Reselling
In 2018, Kelley felt the pull of fashion once again. She began reselling, initially starting with items from her own closet. This venture reignited her excitement for the industry and laid the foundation for her future business endeavors.
Building a Side Hustle During COVID-19
By 2020, during the COVID pandemic, Kelley expanded her reselling activities by selling items for others. She created a lighthearted and profitable side hustle, often spending time with friends, sorting through their closets, enjoying champagne, and splitting the proceeds from sales. The model proved to be enjoyable and lucrative for everyone involved, resulting in a surge of referrals. The number of clothing racks in her home quickly multiplied, and the business began to grow organically.
Establishing a Full-Fledged Business
In 2023, Kelley formalized her venture by setting up a limited liability company (LLC) and opening her services to the public. Over the past three years, she has experienced consistent triple-digit growth, managing her business intentionally and thoughtfully. This approach has allowed her to develop strong relationships with both buyers and consignors, all while maintaining her full-time job in technology.
Teamwork and Business Operations
To support the growing business, Kelley hired her husband to handle all inventory management, pickups, drop-offs, shipping, and other backend operations. This arrangement enabled Kelley to focus on her favorite aspects of the business: helping clients monetize their closets and providing personalized service, such as contacting clients when their “wish list” items become available and ensuring prompt delivery.
